Professional Development

The goal is not inspiration. The goal is durable leadership discipline.

ArcSpan's professional development programs are built for boards, leadership teams, school leaders, and organizational staff who need practical frameworks for navigating disagreement, pressure, and high-stakes decision-making. Every program begins with a scoping conversation. Content is calibrated to the specific challenges the group is actually navigating, not delivered from a standard catalog.

Signature Workshops for Leadership Teams

For leadership teams, cabinets, and senior staff

These workshops address the conflict and communication dynamics that generate the most friction at the leadership level. Sessions are interactive, scenario-based, and structured so participants leave with frameworks they can apply immediately. Each workshop is available in 90-minute, half-day, and full-day formats.

Available topics:

Conflict Sequencing and Emotional Regulation: How conflict escalates, where leaders typically intervene too late or too bluntly, and how to read and manage your own response in the room.

Governance Communication Under Pressure: How boards and executive leaders communicate and miscommunicate when stakes are high, time is short, and trust is thin.

Role Clarity Between Boards and Executives :How role confusion develops, what it costs, and how to codify clear decision boundaries.

Difficult Conversation Structure: A practical framework for preparing and conducting the conversations leaders most commonly avoid.

Decision-Making Discipline During Disagreement: How groups make better decisions when divided, under pressure, or operating after a conflict.

Governance Development

For boards and executive leadership teams

Most governance problems do not announce themselves. They build quietly through unclear roles, communication breakdowns, and conflict patterns that never quite get addressed directly. By the time a board is in crisis, the dysfunction has usually been present for a long time.

These sessions are designed for leadership teams that want to get ahead of that curve. They address governance norms, role clarity, communication protocols, and conflict escalation patterns using the same framework ArcSpan brings to its governance repair work, applied proactively rather than reactively.

Boards that invest in governance development before a crisis are significantly better positioned to navigate one when it arrives.

Investment

Governance Workshop (2 to 4 hours) — $1,600 to $2,000

Half-Day Retreat Facilitation — $2,100 to $2,600

Full-Day Retreat Facilitation — $3,600 to $4,100

Follow-Up Stabilization Session — $1,200 to $1,500

Governance Continuum Package — $5,000 to $6,500 · initial workshop plus two stabilization sessions, includes Summary of Governance Norms

Final pricing is confirmed in a written proposal prior to scheduling. Travel and substantial customization may be incorporated into a fixed project fee by mutual agreement.

School Staff Development

For public and independent school staffs

School staff programs are built for a different audience than leadership team workshops. The participants are teachers, department teams, and staff who work alongside each other every day, often without formal authority over one another. The dynamics are different: conflict between colleagues who share students, navigate common supervisors, and cannot simply disengage from a difficult working relationship.

These programs are grounded in the realities of school culture and designed to build the communication skills staff need most, delivered in a format that fits a school day.

Available programs:

Conflict Fluency for Educators: Recognizing conflict early enough to respond constructively, before avoidance or escalation becomes the default.

Difficult Conversations in School Settings: A structured framework for the conversations school professionals most commonly avoid, with practice built in.

Communication Under Pressure: Practical tools for maintaining clarity and respect when conditions make both harder than usual.

Building a Conflict-Literate Team: For department heads and team leads who need to manage peer friction and build shared norms without formal supervisory authority.

The Rehearsal Room

A Co-Facilitated Development Experience for Leaders and Front-Line Staffs

Most professional development teaches the right words. The Rehearsal Room gives people a chance to practice actually using them, under pressure, with a reacting human being in the room.

Developed in partnership with Malisa Langdon, M.Ed., a 29-year theater arts educator and instructional leader, The Rehearsal Room combines ArcSpan's conflict frameworks with theater pedagogy to create something most professional development never delivers: a structured, low-stakes space to rehearse high-stakes interactions before they happen.

Two tracks are available:

Leadership and Governance: For superintendents, principals, cabinet members, and board chairs. Focused on commanding a room under pressure, preparing for difficult conversations, and navigating governance conflict. Each participant leaves with a blocked script for a situation they are currently facing.

Front-Line Fluency: For teachers, support staff, front-office, and workplace personnel. Focused on de-escalation, reading a room before it escalates, and recovering after a hard day. Participants leave with a pocket phrase card anchored in practiced physical responses.

Investment

Half-Day Workshop — $1,800 to $2,200

Full-Day Experience — $2,900 to $3,400

The Residency — From $4,500, scoped individually. A multi-session engagement that brings The Rehearsal Room to a team across multiple visits, with structured practice, reflection, and iteration built in over time.

How Engagements Are Scoped

Every program begins with a conversation, not a proposal.

ArcSpan does not deliver pre-packaged training into situations that have not been understood first. Before any engagement is confirmed, there is a scoping conversation to clarify what the group is actually navigating, what a successful outcome looks like, and which format will produce the most durable results.

That conversation is free. A written proposal follows only when the scope is clear to both parties.
